Anthony Torrez, Podcaster
This being his first year at the Downey Legend, Anthony Torrez De La O, 12, plans to use his last year at Downey to work on his skills as a podcaster and journalist. He’s a very articulated person and always knows how to keep a conversation going to get the information he is aiming for. De La O finds enjoyment in being able to be one of the people get their information from, and with his well articulated way with words, he plans to work towards eventually becoming news anchor.
“It feels good to deliver the news to people. People have always depended on that one channel for what is going on around the world,” De La O stated. “You have the power to entertain and inform. It’s important to have reliable and valid news and information.”

Michelle Blas, Photographer
As a first year photographer joining The Downey Legend team, Michelle Blas is a well rounded senior. You might recognize her from the softball field, playing varsity as a pitcher. Make sure to watch out for number fifty-five! Blas has been on the field since she was only five years old. Her senior year goals are to attend the University of San Diego, study criminology and if the opportunity presents itself, play softball at college. Blas might seem quiet and shy at first, but she is truly a very giggly human-being. This year Blas has branched out to new things, volunteering at Camp Savio and being able to take care of the children there, and her new passion for photography.
“I have always wanted to be a photographer, and be able to choose my own schedule, meet exciting new people, and travel,” Blas stated. “I would be able to choose my own kind of lifestyle.”
