Every year the Downey Rose Court chooses one of the ladies to be crowned Miss Downey. The program has been running since 1952. The Downey Pageant took place at the Downey Theater for the 67th year on October 22, 2023. The run-up includes Miss Downey, Miss Teen Downey, Junior Miss Downey, and Little Miss Downey. The ages in the running vary for all girls who would like to participate. These young ladies who run always find ways to participate and give back to the community.
This year, Ava Miranda was crowned Miss Downey of 2024. The other young girls crowned were Miss Teen Downey Madison Vega, Junior Miss Downey Leilah Simonian, and Little Miss Downey Kirsi Newman.
The Downey Rose Float decided this year to bring back Mr. Downey Pageant. They ran the same categories as Miss Downey. Sam Sarofeem was crowned Mr. Downey of 2024. Other gentlemen who got crowned as well include Mr. Teen Downey Konstandinos Politis, Junior Mr. Downey Carmelo Jones, and Little Mr. Downey Hunter Wolf.
After being announced Miss Teen Downey last year, Ava Miranda shares how she feels about becoming Miss Downey of 2024.
“After being Miss Teen Downey last, I’ve been preparing myself for a while to become Miss Downey for this year by participating so much” stated Miranda. “To be titled Miss Downey of 2024 is an incredible opportunity after being a part of the Downey Rose Court for so long and now being in the highest position”
So many girls run up for a place in the Downey Court. This can also include princesses like Alyssa Estrada who ran for Miss Teen Downey but still had an opportunity to run as a teen princess. Alyssa who got titled Teen Princess shares how she feels about the Downey Rose Court.
“You really got to work for your spot in the court and prepare yourself,” stated Estrada. “Hopefully next year I can make my way up to Miss Downey and progress more.”
Being a part of the Downey Court creates many experiences and opportunities. They also create many memories shared. Jessica Fromenta who participates in the Downey Rose Court shares her favorite moments.
“Honestly just being a part of the community and giving back is very eye-opening, and you also create many bonds” stated Fromenta. “With these bonds with the girls we have so many memories together it’s like we are our own little family.”
Downey puts out excellent, bright, and kind young individuals. Throughout their time in the program, they represent the city and the Downey Rose Float at several local events. In the Downey Rose Court, you have the chance to make lasting connections with people in the community and to engage with others who share your interests.
