Gissel Delgado, Editor-In-Chief
Having been a part of The Downey Legend in the previous year, former podcaster and current Co-Editor-In-Chief Gissel Delgado, 12, finds herself wanting to grasp on to her ending adolescence, which is full of helping others. Being a part of the Link Crew Commissioner Class, Delgado is passionate about taking care of new students and making sure all feel welcomed into their first years of high school. This carries over to her personal life, in which she highly prioritizes time with her parents and two sisters. She also likes to challenge herself with several Honors and A.P classes due to her love of learning. In her final year at Downey High School, Delgado hopes to finally know what are the next steps in her career and personal life.
"In all the movies I've watched and books I've read, senior year is always depicted as this sort of self-discovery moment," Delgado said. "Senior year is when you really start to grow up and plan your future, so as I wrap up my time in high school, I really hope I get to find my passion. Slowly but surely, I'm confident that I can."
Kimberly Moreno, Photographer
Joining The Downey Legend staff for the very first time this year as a photographer, Kimberly Moreno, 12, is ready to put her skills to the test. Aside from her brand new role in The Downey Legend, Moreno shines when it comes to running track and field, saying it has become an outlet that lets her feel so much more alive and free. Outside of school, she loves to spend her time seeing what other skills she’s capable of, such as sketching realistic portraits of animals and even playing the piano for her family. No matter where she is, Moreno’s welcoming personality reaches just about anyone, whether they’re her friends or someone entirely new. Even if she isn’t fully aware of where she’ll end up in the far future, Moreno hopes to find herself well on her way working towards a business major, yet another skill she’s determined to have under her belt.
When asked about what drove her to tackle the challenge of taking on a photographer position, Moreno excitedly explained, “Photography is one of the best ways to beautifully capture any moment we might take for granted. Some people might not think so,” she even admits, “but it’s a living form of art that can bring a lot of passion out of people.”
