Winter Sports Recap

As winter sports begin their season, fall sports are finishing up their year.
Football
At the beginning of this month, varsity football ended their season at the CIF game Saturday, Dec. 2. The Vikings scored 14 points in the first quarter, seven in the second, and seven again in the third quarter – leading them to lose to Cajon High School 54 – 28.
Water Polo
Girls water polo won in both varsity and junior varsity last Tuesday, Nov. 28 at a home game. The varsity team played against El Rancho High School where they beat the Dons 23 – 4.
“As a coaching staff we are very happy with our team’s overall performance against El Rancho,” Coach Villa said. “That was a great way to start our season. We are coming off last season where we lost in the semi-finals of CIF to the eventful champion. We lost none of our starters from last years team so we are expecting nothing short of a championship game appearance this season.”
The other win consisted of JV beating The Dons 15 – 1 at the same game. The JV team also competed at the 13th Annual Rancho Bernardo Girls Water Polo Invitational Tournament. The three day tournament last from Nov. 30 – Dec. 2 in which the JV team placed third overall. The next game for both teams will be a home game against La Mirada High School at 3:15 p.m on Dec. 8.
Basketball:
In their previous game on Saturday, Dec. 2, The boys varsity basketball team played against Murrieta Valley High School in which the Vikes won 55 – 40.
“We are a very young team filled with juniors, and were all considered extremely young,” Victor Villa said. “I am so ready for season because as a team we have so much potential.”
Their next game will be at home on Saturday, Dec 23 at 6:00 p.m against La Serna High School.
Alongside boy basketball, girls varsity basketball won all six games from their Downey Tourney, a home tournament, that took place on Nov. 21 – 30. Their next game will be Thursday, Dec. 14 for a Legacy game at 6:00 p.m.
Soccer:
This Saturday, Dec. 9, girls varsity soccer tied against Marina 2 – 2 at the Rio Hondo College. Their next game will be on Thursday, Dec. 14 against Bishop Amat High School. The game will be home at 3:15 p.m.
Last Thursday, Dec. 7, boys varsity soccer beat Channel Islands High School 2 – 0 at a home game. Their next game will be on an away game on Wednesday, Dec. 13 against Edison High School at 3:00 p.m.
