“Love Story” was the theme for 2010’s Winter Formal held at Knott’s Berry Farm on Jan. 28. This year’s theme was inspired by the best-selling country song written and recorded by the top-selling digital artist in music history, Taylor Swift. The music video for the song also played a huge role in ASB’s decision for decoration.
“I think the fact that the song is so popular made students more excited for the dance,” sophomore class president, Lisa Guerrero said. “The video for the song by Taylor Swift is in a beautiful, romantic palace so everyone wanted to create their own love story.”
Each table was set with a vase of pink roses matching those on the florist’s arch at the entrance of the Boardwalk Ballroom where the dance was held and desserts were served. Attendees additionally had the opportunity to enjoy a few of the park’s running attractions.
“The place was immaculate and the decorations reminded me of a starry night,” senior Indiana Leon said. “ASB did an amazing job setting up. It was very romantic.”
Towards the end of the night, the seniors nominated for the Winter Formal court were called up on stage to announce the king and queen. Evan Miller and Eileen Rico were chosen as 2010’s Winter Formal king and queen. They received their crowns and shared a dance together. The rest of the court joined on the dance floor soon afterward.
“Winter Formal was the perfect night to just dance and let loose after finals,” sophomore Vice President, David Hamilton said.
After months of preparation for the dance coordinators and members of the associated student body, the event was successful in ticket sales making for a full ballroom that night and memories that will last a lifetime.
