Whether you know how to ice skate or not, Legacy Church brought Legacy Youth together to go ice skating on January 18th, 2025 at L.A KING ICELAND from 11:45 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. With arrivals coming, many line up to purchase before receiving their skates. Waiting with excitement, the youth group sits as they try on their skates. Afterward, many entered the ice rink, some knew how to skate while others had trouble ice skating. Some held onto something or someone laughing a lot trying not to fall as others practiced with a slide board, taking turns to sit down as others practiced gliding, eventually going faster and faster. One of the youth leaders, Laura Magallanes, shares how she as well as other youth leaders prepared for this event. “I prepared to have the youth ice skating event by discussing it with other leaders to figure out when we can do it.” Magallanes states, “We had our whole calendar in front of us, deciding when we wanted to place each event for the youth group, and then we decided that the ice skating event last year was fun for you guys, so we decided to do it again”. As youth students are ice skating, Laura Magallanes shares her experience seeing them ice skating. “I think the youth group had fun, definitely some scared skaters but everyone who went gave it a try and had fun” Magallanes states, “I saw a lot of my youth students helping each other which was nice to see, so looks like everyone had a good time”. “Besides falling, just falling and being nervous was just a little funny,” she continues. Seeing funny moments and how ice skating went, Jolissa V., 9, shares her experience of ice skating. “It was very fun, it was a learning process but I got better as time went on”, Jolissa states, “When I first got on the ice, I was like gripping onto the railing because I did not want to fall. My friends were ahead of me and I stayed back and I was laughing”. “I witnessed people falling but you know I tried to not laugh because I didn’t want them to feel bad.” she continues. “What made me laugh was that my friends went ahead of me.” Students continuing to ice skate, are encouraged and helped by other people with different skill levels in ice skating. As the month of February is coming up, Laurage Mallagnes shares upcoming youth events. Our upcoming event for the youth group for February is a Valentine’s Day party”, Magallanes states, “both on the Sunday before and the Wednesday before, that is the next soonest upcoming event that we’re having”.
