When you started high school, did everything feel bigger? Did you feel nervous about getting lost on the first day of school? Do you want to know what it’s like, for those leaving this school at the end of this year? Freshmen say it isn’t a big deal, and seniors may complain about classes, what’s really on their mind for this school year?
The flexibility, sports, and programs are a big hit with the students here. There are always complaints about schedules at the beginning of the school year, but our counselors work hard to get our schedules together to make everyone as happy as they possibly can. However, we noticed some asked for the quality of the restrooms around campus to be improved.
Elijah Cheatham says, “My best memory is last year, we went to Idaho for a tournament for basketball, the whole team was out there, l feel like we had a good group.
“ The love for sports is everywhere on campus,” Gilbert Ardin says “I think it’s a good school, I think it’s cool, I like the programs they offer for sports.”
We all have different opinions about schools, but I can tell you for sure, Downey is one of the best if you are looking at the environment of where you want to spend some of the best years of your life!
As Freshmen adjust and Seniors enjoy their last year at Downey High School, many students enjoy high school life. Freshmen are working with new schedules, getting involved, focusing on academic studies, and making new friends. “I think it’s a good school, I think it’s cool, I like the programs they offer for sports” Andino states, “I like the flexibility and counselors.”
Freshmen students want to get into a good college, get good grades, focus on school, and prepare for what is ahead of them. Both freshmen and seniors admit that Downey High School is a huge campus with many students. Jeremiah Florez, 12, speaks out about the diversity at Downey High. “It’s a very big school, lots of different people,” Florez states, “It’s all kinds of different people actually, I like it.”
Many seniors are looking forward to the future and what 12th grade offers them. Participating in school events, and spirit weeks, achieving goals, and having a sense of pride and gratitude. Julyssa Camacho, 12, expresses how she feels about being a senior. “I’m looking forward to finishing up this chapter in high school, and going to all the senior events that are gonna be here and outside of school,” Camacho states, “And just really admiring the last year I have with my friends here at Downey High.”
