With the school year soon approaching its end, there are plenty of students who are wondering which classes they should take. The first thing to know when choosing your classes is ensuring that you are on track to meeting your A-G requirements, which are needed in order to be considered for admission to a UC or CSU school. These requirements state that you must have two years of a history class, four years of English, three years of math, a science class or two, two years of a foreign language, and a year of visual and performing arts and college prep.
This is what Senior Yaretzi Hernandez, had to say when asked what her favorite class she has taken has been. “I would say AP Lit(erature), because Mrs. Crespo is such an amazing teacher and I love all the people and all the discussions that we do. It’s so interactive and it’s so fun to have that class.” Hernandez continues by adding, “Mrs. Crespo makes the whole thing so interactive and fun, she’s always asking for our input. And I’m able to talk to all the people around me and get to know how they feel about the topic or subject we are discussing.”
Another class offered is AP Psychology, which counts for elective credit. Julia Diego shares her thoughts on the class. “This class has been the most interesting to learn in because you’re learning all sorts of things about yourself with this class and how we interact with others on a day-to-day basis. Also in this class, you also learn things that maybe you didn’t necessarily think it had to do with psychology but when you learn it, it makes so much sense as to how it correlates.” Diego adds how her teacher played a part in her enjoyment of the class. “I think a lot had to do with Mrs. Hudson. I loved her way of teaching us. She is so understanding and so patient with every single one of her students and believes they can succeed. I always felt so safe and comforted in her classroom so I think my favorite class definitely had to do with her.”
“My favorite class has been Macroeconomics. The teacher, Castile is wonderful and he really makes it a joy in actually learning the concepts and he gets along with everyone very well. He really makes you excited to learn and attend class.” Monique Ochoa Ramo says AP Macro, a semester class that counts as one’s economics class, which every senior needs to take in order to graduate. “I would highly recommend this class as I think you would use some of these lessons in real life, especially when pursuing a career in business.”
There are a number of interesting classes to choose from when deciding which ones you want on your schedule, whether they are electives or classes that count towards A–G. It is important to ensure the classes you choose not only help towards getting your credits for graduation, but also interest you and make it easy to learn and take important lessons from.
