Finishing his last year strong, Podcast Manager, Enrique Jimenez,12, has been part of Downey High School’s newspaper, The Downey Legend, for his 2nd year now. With his goofy sense of humor he’s published numerous podcasts that always showcase a positive and light hearted attitude. Besides podcast, Jimenez has been part of Downey High’s soccer team for three years now, and enjoys how he shows his true self on the field with his teammates when playin
Having podcast skills, Jimenez purses to be involved in the Television Industry. Jimenez enjoys spreading news in his own unique way for others to be informed.“I always like news and it’s something I see myself fitting into.” Jimenez stated. Being an outgoing person he enjoys listening to others and giving advice back. Jimenez desires for others to be informed about news and him giving that information., like talking about it and giving his opinions on it. “ I like to know what’s going on and I like to make other people aware of it,” Jimenez stated.
As she enters her third year in Newspaper, podcaster Jezabel Perez, 12, plans on graduating and attending San Diego State University to become more independent but not too far from home. Perez plans to study to become a Social Worker to pursue a career in which she demonstrates her kindness and desire to help others. While in The Downey Legend, Perez hopes to sharpen her listening skills that will also benefit her down her career path.
Perez finds joy in being a podcaster as she loves to talk and hear other people’s stories and tell it in a unique way other than writing. “If I’m not doing something meaningful and making a difference then what is the point? I want to leave this world knowing that I made a difference” Perez explained.
Starting her first year in Newspaper as a podcaster, Melina Michaus is a senior at Downey High with a voice loud enough to be heard. Michaus has been in Girl Scouts since she was 10 years old and started softball around the same time, up until her senior year. Michaus plans to go to a four year university, ideally San Diego State, to major in nursing where she will help others in need.
In her free time, Michaus reads romance and mystery novels. “I like novels because it helps me grow my imagination,” Michaus informed. “I like romance novels because I love, love. I like mystery novels because of the curiosity and not knowing what’s going to happen next.” Michaus is usually hidden behind a book, but once you get her to put it down and talk, she will keep the conversation going.
Staying active and helping people is what Yasmine Jreisat,10, does best. She looks forward to meeting new people and getting together to go around and help the most needed. Therefore, she has a two year experience in Downey High School’s Kiwini's club, where they fundraise money and volunteer for different organizations. She is going on her second year as a tennis player and plans on staying on the team for the rest of her high school career. And she is also going on her first year as a podcast in Downey’s newspaper.
Being unsure of what she wants to base her career on, Jreisat is focused pursing something she enjoys doing. She is driven by her determination to keep a high GPA. Making her capable of always receiving A’s in her courses, this will go in her favor whenever she decides what to base her life on. “I wanna do something enjoyable, I'm not so sure what that is going to be yet,” Jreisat stated. “But I will work on having a stable life”.
