American recording artist, P!nk collaborated with Fun’s lead singer Nate Ruess and released “Just Give Me a Reason” from her album, The Truth About Love on April 12, 2013. P!nk had originally written the song for herself, but later realized that she needed someone else to accompany her because it was more of a conversation than a single perspective song. She asked Ruess from indie band, Fun, to record the song with her as a duet. Ruess agreed and helped finish write the track. The song reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Jody Rosen from Rolling Stone referred to the song as the best track on Pink’s album, “P!nk dials back from the drama, letting the melody and sentiments do their work,” she said. It starts off with a slow piano melody as P!nk sings the first verse and introduces the bass guitar and the drums. Ruess sings the second verse and the rest of the song is sung as a duet. Then comes around in full circle to end with a similar piano solo played in the introduction. P!nk and Ruess sing about desperately wanting to hold onto a relationship although it seems to be falling apart. This experience was personal for P!nk because her and her husband had separated in 2008, but reconnected in 2009. Pink’s tour begins October 2013.
